For several years it appeared that the popularity of YouTube stars and influencers meant the standards of professional media production were on the decline, as low-budget or no-budget videos went viral and audiences didn’t seem bothered by their production values. Now, though, successful YouTubers like Mr. Beast have high budgets, hire Hollywood production talent, and make increasingly ambitious videos. They also hire some of our students. Industry professionals and professors discuss the ramifications.
